MSRT ANNUAL CONFERENCE 2004
April 29-30, 2004

The MSRT will again be hosting an annual conference. The conference will be held at the Sturbridge Host, Hotel & Conference Center. Attendees will earn up to fourteen continuing education credits over the two-day conference. The 2003 conference was a big success with almost five hundred people in attendance over the two-day period. Included in the attendees to the conference last year were MSRT state board members, the many vendors whose employers gave their support, technologists who attended for CEU’s, and the large number of radiology students accompanied by their instructors/coaches who participated in the Buzz Bowl competition.

The theme for this year’s conference is “Career Pathways, the Choice is Yours”. The lectures will be geared towards the many different career choices technologists have available to them. There will be a broad range of topics covered ranging from CT, MRI, management, and education, to applications specialists, PACS administrators, radiologist assistants, and a state inspector. To go along with our theme, all the lectures will be given by technologists, some who continue to work as technologists, and others who have continued down their chosen pathway.

We are very excited to have Dawn Fearn, the president-elect of the ASRT, attending our conference this year. She will be giving the keynote address on Thursday, April 29th named “An Affair to Remember”. She will also participate in a group lecture on the developing programs and professional responsibilities of radiologist assistants to be given on Friday, April 30th.

We are equally excited to have Richard Guarino, Director of Radiology Services at Newton-Wellesley hospital, attend our conference and give the keynote address on Friday, April 30th. He is a former technologist who chose several pathways that include MRI, management, and continuing his education to include receiving his master’s degree.

Each day we will offer one radiation protection lecture and one lecture with several speakers along with a moderator. The two topics covered by the multiple guest speaker lecture will be the formation and development of Radiologist Assistants, and the other topic will encompass a variety of lecturers to cover the many “Pathways” that technologists have available to them today. This is something new, and we hope you enjoy the interactive nature of these lectures.

One of the highlights of the conference is always the Buzz Bowl competition. From the colleges involved to the people who volunteer to help coordinate it, it’s a great deal of fun for all who participate. There were teams in attendance last year from all over Massachusetts as well as one from Connecticut. The team from Massasoit Community College won last year, so they appear to be the team to beat this year. Not only is this competition fun and a great review for the registry, but more importantly it brings together students and forms bonds that last years. We highly recommend participating in this college vs. college competition.

As always, we will have plenty of great food, some lunchtime bonuses, and will also be holding a raffle with some great prizes. The proceeds of this raffle will help defray the cost of hosting the conference. We look forward to seeing you at this year’s conference. Please make a note of the March 29th deadline to reserve a room at the hotel. When reserving your room, please make sure they know your attending the conference to ensure the lower group room rate.
