Shift: Full Time, hours to be determined, possible day and evening shifts with weekend rotations.
Qualifications:
A minimum of high school diploma and successful completion of an accredited school of Radiologic Technology. Must be certified by the ARRT and must possess a valid license to practice as a radiologic technologist in Massachusetts. Must be certified in Mammography.
- Knowledge of anatomy, cross-sectional anatomy, physiology, medical terminology.
- Knowledge of the principles of radiation physics and radiographic chemistry.
- Knowledge of radiographic positioning and radiographic equipment.
- Knowledge of universal precautions.
- Effective interpersonal and communications skills.
- Attention to details
- Ability to provide compassionate care to patients.
- Ability to recognize emergency situations and respond appropriately.
- Ability to lift over 5 lbs.
- Must be able to read and write English.
Must demonstrate appropriate knowledge of the principles of growth and development of adolescent, young adult, adult, senior adult and geriatric patients. Must possess the ability to assess patient specific data relative to age-specific needs and provide appropriate care.
Responsibilities:
Receiving direction from the Unit Operations Manager, incumbent operates radiologic equipment to make clinical diagnostic x-ray films as directed by physician; must have the capability to perform routine diagnostic procedures with speed, accuracy, method and understanding of theory behind the same.
Principal Duties & Responsibilities:
- Adjusts equipment to correct setting for procedures.
- Positions and instructs patients regarding the procedure.
- Determines the proper voltage, current and desired exposure time and sets equipment.
- Arranges, attaches or adjusts supportive devices to prevent the patient from moving and to aid in some comfort during localization.
- Adjusts lead shields to protect unaffected parts from exposure to radiation.
- Selects proper film and inserts into holder.
- Positions equipment.
- Repeats exposure procedure from slightly different angles as prescribed by physician.
- Responsible for the developing process; removes film from holders.
- Positions film or plate on machine feeder for carrying through developing, fixing and washing solutions, verifies temperature of solutions and adjusts to optimum processing temperature.
- Maintains records for quality assurance of all x-ray equipment and processors.
- Maintains records for billing purposes and for present and past radiographs.
- Provides on-the-job training to x-ray students as assigned.
